Quick guide for parents, players, and coaches

Check-In and Information Hub

All teams must check in at the LRC kiosk across from the raffle table. This is the central hub for schedules, updates, and awards.

On-Ice Format: The Big Stuff

  • Cross-ice: two games at once on one ice surface (dividers/half-ice boards when available).
  • Split squad: each team divides into two equal groups (one group per half).
  • 4-on-4 with continuous play.
  • Line changes: every 90 seconds (buzzer).
  • Faceoffs: start of each half only.
  • Side swap: at the start of the second half, the AWAY team switches halves, so players rotate opponents.
  • No scores or stats: focus is on development and fun.
  • Blue pucks: provided.

Timing and Flow

  • Ice slot: 60 minutes total.
  • Warm-up: 5 minutes.
  • Gameplay: two 20-minute run-time halves.
  • Team shootouts: 6 minutes.
  • Wrap-up: time for handshakes and awards.

Penalties, Safety, and Respect

  • Minor penalties are handled in accordance with U9 guidelines; officials stop play and manage possession changes.
  • No power plays: teams stay even strength.
  • Sit next shift: offending player sits out their next shift.
  • Serious incidents: may result in ejection.
  • Zero tolerance: abuse, harassment, or disrespect toward players, coaches, officials, volunteers, or arena staff can lead to removal and possible team sanctions.

Dressing Rooms: Parent Must-Knows

  • 1 parent: 1 player ratio in dressing rooms.
  • No valuables: rooms are not locked; LMHA/LRC are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Hockey Canada dressing room policy applies.

Conduct and Social Media

  • Parents/guardians are expected to follow Respect in Sport principles.
  • Negative or harassing social media posts are not tolerated.
  • Incidents are reviewed by the Tournament Discipline Committee; repeat issues can lead to removal and team sanctions.

Emergencies and Facility Safety

  • Emergency help: alert facility staff/security; call 9-1-1 for urgent incidents.
  • Evacuation: follow posted maps and staff instructions; do not use elevators.
  • Severe weather: proceed to designated change room shelters.
  • First aid: AEDs and first aid stations available; report emergencies to Guest Services.

Photos and Video

Photos and videos may be taken for event promotion. If you do not want your child photographed, notify the Information Hub at check-in.
