Check-In
Tournament Check-In & Information Hub
All teams must check in at the LRC Kiosk across from the Raffle Table, which will serve as the Information Hub throughout the tournament. Tournament schedules, updates, and awards will be coordinated from this location.
All Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta, and LMHA rules are in effect except as noted below.
Three-Goal Maximum per Player per Game
- Any player who scores more than three goals in a single game will have further goals disallowed.
- A fourth goal results in a stoppage and faceoff in the player’s defending zone.
- A fifth goal will result in a Minor Penalty for Unsportsmanlike Conduct.
Major Penalties
- Major penalties are five minutes in length (stop or run time).
- Any player who receives two Major penalties during the tournament will be suspended for the remainder of the tournament.
Suspensions
- Suspensions must be clearly noted on the game sheet to count as served.
- Tournament suspensions are submitted to Hockey Alberta Discipline for review; further action may be taken after the event.
- The Tournament Committee recommends: “When in doubt, sit them out.” Coaches are responsible for ensuring all players are eligible.
Zero Tolerance for Abuse of Officials
All referee decisions are final. Abuse towards officials will result in disciplinary action by Hockey Alberta and removal from the tournament. LMHA uses this event to train new referees, many of whom are youth. Respect is expected at all times.
Section 2
Team Rosters & Eligibility
- Rosters must be submitted prior to the first game (with player names, jersey numbers, and approved by Hockey Alberta).
- Affiliates must be approved and properly identified on game sheets.
- Players may only participate with one team throughout the tournament.
Tournament entry fees are non-refundable once paid. Refunds will only be considered if the LMHA Memorial Classic Tournament Committee cancels the tournament itself. No refunds will be issued for team withdrawals, forfeits, or suspensions.
Section 4
Team & Coach Responsibilities
- Coaches and team officials are responsible for player conduct on and off the ice.
- Dressing rooms must be left clean. Sunflower seeds and chewing tobacco are prohibited. Teams not complying may be charged a cleaning fee.
- Hockey Canada Dressing Room Policy is in effect.
- Home team wears dark jerseys; visiting team wears light jerseys.
Player of the Game Awards
One MVP & Heart & Hustle player per team, chosen by the coach, will receive an award. Helmets must remain on during presentations. Awards are distributed to team managers at check-in.
Section 5
Track Use Guidelines (LRC)
The LRC indoor track is a shared space, and all teams must follow these guidelines:
- SUPERVISION: All groups under age 18 must be actively supervised by a coach/adult (18+).
- SIGN-IN: Coaches must sign in at the Fitness Centre Desk before track use.
- LIMITS: 15-minute maximum use; large groups may be limited at staff discretion.
- ETIQUETTE: Follow posted track directions and avoid excess congestion.
- PROHIBITED: No access to spin bikes, fitness equipment, or Crossfire areas.
- ATTIRE: Non-marking shoes and appropriate clothing required.
Section 6
Parent & Spectator Conduct
- All parents, guardians, and spectators are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and sportsmanlike manner at all times.
- The Respect in Sport – Parent Program applies to all families. Its principles of respect, responsibility, and positive support are expected to be demonstrated both inside and outside of the arena.
- Social Media Conduct: Negative, harassing, or inappropriate comments directed at players, officials, coaches, volunteers, or other teams will not be tolerated. Posts that damage the reputation of the tournament, LMHA, or participating associations may result in disciplinary action.
Incidents & Discipline
Any incidents involving parents or spectators will be reviewed by the Tournament Discipline Committee. LMHA member incidents may be escalated to the LMHA Board. Visiting team incidents may be referred to the team’s home association. Spectators who cannot comply may be removed, and repeat issues can result in team sanctions.
Section 7
Immediate Incidents & Liability
Immediate Incidents:
Any incidents that require urgent intervention (violence, harassment, safety threats, or criminal activity) must be reported immediately to facility staff, security, or local public authorities (RCMP). Tournament officials will assist and cooperate with authorities as needed.
Liability Waiver:
The LMHA Memorial Classic Tournament Committee, Leduc Minor Hockey Association, and all associated volunteers, officials, and facility staff are not responsible for any injuries, accidents, lost or stolen property, or damages that occur during the tournament. All participants, coaches, and spectators attend and participate at their own risk.
- 4-Game Guarantee: Swiss-style (3 rounds + placement finals).
- Game Time: 75 minutes total:
- 3-minute warm-up.
- Periods: 15-15-15-minute stop time periods.
- Flooding: Alternating pattern (one game floods after 2nd, the next after 1st).
- Drop Clock Rule: If there is five (5:00) minutes left on the ice permit, after the first stoppage of play, the game clock shall be reset to two (2:00) minutes.
- Mercy Rule: If at the start of the third period a team is ahead by 5+ goals, the entire third period is run-time, even if the lead shrinks later. The clock will display no more than a 5-goal spread.
- Penalties:
- Minor: 3 minutes (run time) / 2 minutes (stop time).
- Major: 5 minutes (both stop and run time).
- Timeouts: One 30-second timeout per game.
- Pucks: Supplied by the tournament.
- Postgame: Teams shake hands with players and officials, then line up on the blue lines for Player of the Game awards.

Section 9
Forfeits & Overtime
Forfeits & Game Start:
Teams must be prepared to begin play up to 15 minutes prior to their scheduled start time if the tournament is running ahead. Any team that fails to ice a minimum roster within 10 minutes of their scheduled game time will forfeit the game, with a recorded score of 5–0. Forfeited games count toward the 4-game guarantee.
Overtime Rules – Finals (Sunday Games)• 3-minute 3-on-3 overtime (time permitting).
• If still tied, shootout:
- Three shooters per team; home team shoots first.
- No player may shoot twice until all eligible players have shot.
- Players serving penalties or those who have already scored 3 goals are ineligible.
- Goalies may be substituted for an extra attacker during overtime.
Section 10
Finals & Awards
- Candy trophies are awarded to 1st & 2nd-place teams.
Tie-Breaker Formula (Round Robin Seeding)
- Fewer Penalty Minutes – The team that spent the least time in the penalty box ranks higher.
- Fewer Goals Against – If still tied, the team that gave up fewer goals ranks higher.
- Coin Toss – If everything is still tied, a coin toss will decide.
Section 11
Raffle Table & Special Attractions
The Raffle Table, located at the LRC across from the Information Hub, will feature fundraising activities and attractions throughout the tournament weekend.
50/50 Raffle
- Hosted through Rafflebox with onsite terminal purchases.
- Tickets are available throughout the tournament.
- Draws are announced daily at the Information Hub.
- Payment accepted by cash, debit/credit, and Apple Pay.

Hockey Stick Throne
Take a seat in our custom-built Hockey Stick Throne, the perfect photo spot for players and families. Framed by a balloon arch, it is a must-see attraction and a memorable tournament keepsake.

Special Guest – Hunter (Edmonton Oilers)
Hunter, the Oilers’ mascot, is scheduled to visit on Saturday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Bring your cameras and get ready for autographs and photos.

Section 12
Emergency Response Protocol (ERP)
The Leduc Recreation Centre (LRC) maintains a full Emergency Response Plan.
- Evacuation Maps: Posted throughout the facility. Muster points are the Northeast, Southeast, and Northwest parking lots.
- Fire or Emergency: Alert staff, activate the nearest fire alarm pull, dial 9-1-1 (cell) or 8-9-1-1 (LRC phone). Follow the instructions of the Evacuation Marshall. Do not use elevators.
- Severe Weather: Proceed to designated change room shelters.
- AEDs and First Aid Stations: Available throughout the facility.
- The event complies with the Indoor Special Event Fire & Safety Plan, including inspections and onsite staff direction.
- All emergencies must also be reported to Guest Services, which will direct first responders.
Section 13
Photography Disclaimer
- Photographs and video may be taken during the LMHA Memorial Classic by tournament staff, volunteers, or the official photographer.
- Images may be used for tournament promotion, social media, or future marketing.
- By participating in the event, all players, coaches, and spectators grant permission for their likenesses to be used without compensation.
- Families who do not wish to have their child photographed must notify the Tournament Information Hub (LRC Kiosk) at check-in.
Section 14
Grievances & Complaints
24-Hour Rule
LMHA observes a 24-hour rule for grievances. Any complaints submitted before 24 hours after the completion of the final tournament game will be deleted without being read. Only those received after this period will be considered.
Referee Complaints
Concerns regarding officiating must be directed to the LMHA Referee-in-Chief at: RIC@lmha.ab.ca
Tournament Organization Complaints
Issues related to the operation or organization of the tournament can be directed to the Tournament Committee at: tournament@lmha.ab.ca
Team Conduct Complaints
- Concerns about visiting teams must be submitted directly to the respective association of that team.
- Concerns regarding Leduc teams may be submitted to the LMHA U13 Director at: U13@lmha.ab.ca
Section 15
Tournament Authority & Acknowledgements
The LMHA Memorial Classic Tournament Committee reserves the right to make changes to the tournament format, schedule, rules, or regulations at any time without prior notice, if deemed necessary for the fair and safe operation of the event.
